[In malice be children but, in understanding, be men] 1cor 14:20
Dear Friend
Accepting and running with everything your leader says, hook pine and sinker without asking questions or doing personal research is not a sign of maturity but, it depicts naivety and spiritual childishness. Only children run with what they are told without doing further findings.
No matter how highly placed, spiritual or gifted a man is, it doesn't change the fact that he is human and can make mistakes. Therefore thinking everything he says or does is 100% right is not a noble thing to do
In Acts 17:11 we are told of a remarkable group of people popularly known today as the Berean Christians. Scripture says these people were more noble than their Christian counterparts in Thessalonica because, after receiving the word, they went back to do research if those things were actually true.
This therefore is a proof that, those who do proper personal study and research before concurring with what they were told/taught are rated higher than those who don't see the need to scrutinize anything
High ranking men, both in the secular and sacred today, are changing some of the things they once held unto and taught. People who scrutinized their stance earlier were seen as rebellious and reprobate and kicked out of their inner caucus. Nevertheless today, the narrative is changing
World famous preacher, American televangelist, Creflo dollar; recently came out to openly declare that part of what he taught all these years isn't correct. Another popular pastor, Abel Damina has been going back on some of the things he once taught. 10 years ago, Deeper life Bible Church members will never have thought that world famous music artists will be invited to perform at their crusades
These are just a few examples to prove that great men and women can make errors. Therefore, dear friend, refusing to ask questions or scrutinize things, sermons or teachings is wrong is a childish thing to do.
Stop seeing those who make further inquiries as unruly, bad eggs or confusionists; when in the real sense, they are the true agents of change the world needs
What if men like Martin Luther of blessed memories never asked questions. where would the church be today?
What about Martin Luther King Jr. How will the USA be today
Men like pastor Dr WF Kumuyi left his former church to start a now world well recognized and respected ministry (DCLM) simply because, he asked questions and wasn't getting soothing answers
What if he never left?
What if he never scrutinized the system?
What if he simply followed the crowed?
Would this great ministry have been born?
Ponder on the answer
Do you remember the issue between Apostle Peter and the then upcoming apostle Paul?
See Galatians 2:11-14
Galatians 2:11-21
New Living Translation
Paul Confronts Peter
11 But when Peter came to Antioch, I had to oppose him to his face, for what he did was very wrong. 12 When he first arrived, he ate with the Gentile believers, who were not circumcised. But afterward, when some friends of James came, Peter wouldn’t eat with the Gentiles anymore. He was afraid of criticism from these people who insisted on the necessity of circumcision. 13 As a result, other Jewish believers followed Peter’s hypocrisy, and even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy.
14 When I saw that they were not following the truth of the gospel message, I said to Peter in front of all the others, “Since you, a Jew by birth, have discarded the Jewish laws and are living like a Gentile, why are you now trying to make these Gentiles follow the Jewish traditions
What if Paul never confronted Peter?
Will the hypocrisy have stopped?
Filter what I say and may God give us understanding
Remember: in understanding, be men
